It feels a bit strange to promote something I developed so long ago, but I’m going to do it anyway. When it comes down to it, it was still me that wrote the thing, even if the me from two and a half years ago knew slightly less than the me typing this now.

With that in mind, feel free to peruse my short story from the web. It’s called Maureen, and it was featured in Issue #137 of the writer’s workshop by mail, Calliope.

The following things are happening next week:

I’m moving into a house with two friends. This is good, as I’ll have the opportunity to save a little dough in addition to living with nice people.
I’m beginning a new job at HSBC (see above logo), writing policies and procedures. This is good, as the comfortable income will allow for better meals, and possibly a gym membership, in addition to eliminating the practice of sitting around while nervously checking my bank account.
I wanted to add a funny third bullet here, but that might be about it with the updates.

They Blew Him All to Bits

If one ending wasn’t good enough, the new Hemingway Library Edition of A Farewell to Arms contains forty-seven separate endings to the same story. The purpose is to offer a glimpse of the author’s creative process of rewriting in the days before word processors. Also, the artwork resembles the first edition, except I think the “dirty” words are spelled out in full rather than substituted with dashes (“- – -”).

The new LP by Dirty Projectors, Swing Lo Magellan, is finally streaming in full over at NYT. There’s also this lengthy write up and a trailer for their half-related movie Hi Custodian on the band’s website. If you read the same music sources as me, you already knew all of this. But I felt like I should share, since thoughtful song arrangements and peculiar harmonies hit me pretty hard.

When it comes to innovative and complex lyrics, WHY? takes the cake. The band just announced a new EP today, titled Sod in the Seed. While this isn’t the new full-length album I thought was coming, I guess it’s on the way. The single sounds like an amalgamation of their past couple of albums, which is also fine by me.
