A Brief Diversion From Noveling

November 30, 2008

Earlier today, Cary, Steph and I recorded a song by The Mr. T Experience.

They supplied the dueling ukes, while I did the shaky vocal noises. I’m so glad we were all down for this.

Also, this recording marked my third appearance on a ukeamillion song, and hopefully not the last!

Listen to our rendition of ”Sorry For Freaking Out On The Phone Last Night” here.

*UPDATE: I emailed it to Dr. Frank, who linked to it on his blog.

Above is a screen shot from the online game Super Obama World:

In the first installment, set in Sarah Palin’s home state of Alaska, you control President-elect Barack Obama as you battle pigs and pitbulls with lipstick, hockey moms, Russian soldiers, greedy oil-company executives, and Sarah Palin herself.

Good Vibrations

November 6, 2008

Remember when I mentioned something about wanting to fly out and see Brian Wilson play somewhere? Well, that won’t be necessary, because Robert Crowley and I are watching the genius himself play on Monday night at the Ryman in Nashville. Another life goal fulfilled.

I Heard The News Today, Oh Boy

Founding Descendents guitarist Frank Navetta passed away on Friday:

Frank Navetta, co-founder and original guitarist with the influential punk-pop group the Descendents, died Friday. Navetta played guitar with the band during its first six years, writing and performing on the band’s 1979 debut single ‘Ride the Wild/It’s A Hectic World,’ the 1981 EP ‘Fat,’ 1982’s classic ‘Milo Goes to College’ and parts of 1985’s ‘I Don’t Want to Grow Up.’

Of Lions and Electricity

November 2, 2008

Some nice things were said about me, NaNoWriMo, Cat Steve Evans and ukes on Electric Lion yesterday.

Thanks Cary.

As for my novel in progress, it’s going really well. My goal was to spend yesterday racking up 3,000 words, since I’m bound to fall behind sometime in the next week. Stay on me about finishing. This year’s bound to challenge 2006 when it comes to juggling novel-writing with the rest of the world. Elisa and I had our first “write-in” last night, which consisted of free coffee, dishes from Chen Express, partial loitering, and no wi-fi distractions. Good to know there’s several of us participating.

Alright, enough, back to it.
